Jade & Dane Lundgren

CO-LEAD PASTORS

Meet Jade & Dane

Dane and Jade Lundgren have devoted their lives to serving the Church through pastoral ministry, worship leadership, discipleship, teaching, spiritual formation, and compassionate care. For more than two decades, they have carried a shared calling to help people encounter the transforming love of Jesus Christ, grow in spiritual and emotional wholeness, and become deeply rooted in the truth and beauty of the gospel.

From their roots leading a youth ministry together, to studying at Wheaton College Graduate School together, and serving in churches across Pittsburgh as ministry leaders, they have a combined track record of over 50 years of ministry experience.

Jade has spent over 25 years in ministry, serving the local church with theological depth, creative gifting, and heartfelt leadership. Holding both a B.A. in Christian Education and an M.A. in Christian Formation and Ministry from Wheaton College, she has devoted her life to teaching Scripture and cultivating spaces where people can experience the presence and love of God in meaningful and lasting ways.

Alongside her ministry in the church, Jade has also ministered nationally through songwriting, worship leading, and artist development. She has collaborated with People & Songs, The Emerging Sound, and The Band Table, and has seen significant impact as both a songwriter and recording artist. Her music has been recorded by various Christian artists, and she has toured nationally, including participating in Winter Jam. With three albums released and hundreds of songs written, Jade’s creative ministry is vast.

Having been a part of the St. Philip’s community since high school, working at the church for the past 7 years, and being mentored by former senior leader Eric Taylor, Jade knows and loves the St. Philip’s Church community and understands the unique DNA of the way St. Philip’s blends ancient and modern worship.

Dane Lundgren has spent more than 25 years serving in ministry and leadership. With an M.A. in Christian Formation and Ministry, Dane began his vocational ministry journey serving within the Anglican tradition before ultimately pursuing a dual calling to both pastoral care and medicine. From early on, he sensed a deep burden to help bring healing to others, not only physically, but emotionally, spiritually, and relationally as well.

For the past 14 years, Dane has served as a physician in the Pittsburgh area, faithfully caring for patients while also carrying significant leadership responsibilities within the medical field. His leadership reflects extensive real-world experience navigating both suffering and restoration in others’ lives. Dane carefully manages patient outcomes and the medical teams providing complex care. He is honored to continue serving the community by being both part-time physician and pastor, and sees this unique balance not as competing callings, but as a unified expression of the life God has called him to live in service to others.

Dane and Jade have three amazing daughters and two tiny girl dogs who kind of run the house. They love hosting, working out, reading, and they estimate that they eat at Casa Amigos at least once a week. :)

Together, they are committed to being the best parents they can be (and one day training their dogs) and cultivating a healthy, gospel-centered home-life and church-life. They see a St. Philip’s Church that is marked by theological depth, authentic worship and genuine community. Above all, Dane and Jade deeply love the Lord, love His Word, and love people. They are grateful for the opportunity to serve the St. Philip’s family and the greater Pittsburgh community, and count it a joy and privilege to walk alongside others in faith, healing, and discipleship.

Eric Taylor

Eric Taylor

RECTOR EMERITUS

Meet Eric

For 31 years Eric led a team of very capable men and women who love Jesus and want to see their lives count for the Kingdom of God. Energized by Eric’s direction, the St. Philip’s staff works hard to equip God’s people, model a way of service, and raise up Kingdom leaders.

The Taylor’s over three decade journey at St. Philip’s began when God called Eric back to his native Pittsburgh from ministry in Connecticut. Over those many years, St. Philip’s has witnessed many changes, some easy, some not, but by God’s grace St. Philip’s has thrived. Throughout, it has remained very clear to Eric and his family that this is where they were supposed to be, this is where God wants him to lead and serve.

For Eric, real spiritual combustion comes from seeing others meet Jesus. For him, the only thing that compares is watching people step into leadership and seeing God use their lives as they invest in others and reach over the walls to outsiders. It’s a true joy when he gets to join with friends and leaders to share the good news of Jesus. He loves the people and ministry of St. Philip’s.

He also loves all things Pittsburgh – the sports, the people, the history, and the food. He enjoys time with family, and loves to hang out with his two grown sons as much as possible.

He shares a love/hate relationship with golf.

Sarah Durham

YOUTH MINISTRIES PASTOR

Meet Sarah

Sarah has a passion for mentoring students whether it’s in a high school classroom, in her living room, in the community, or in the loft space of St. Philip’s. She has lived and taught in the Moon community since 2013. Sarah first began coming to St. Philip’s in 2015 and has since been involved with Hangin In, High School ministries, Kidz Church, and Women’s ministries. It is Sarah’s hope and prayer to develop even more strength in the Youth Ministry programs to continue to have them be a sought-after, safe place for any middle or high schooler – a space where they know they can grow in their faith and are supported in every way possible during their journey.

Sarah and her husband, Ian, have been married for 16 years. They have two boys, Calder (7) and Cayden (2), and a very loving boxer mix named Grace. With two young boys, their busy lives are filled with monster trucks, hot wheels, dirt, makeshift construction sites, and snacks – lots and LOTS of snacks. You can usually find them all outside riding bikes, playing basketball or soccer with friends, and racing cars and trucks down the driveway.

Josh Carey

ASSISTANT WORSHIP DIRECTOR

Meet Josh

Josh is the Assistant Worship Leader at St. Philips. Josh and his wife, Mackenzie, initially began attending St. Philip’s to be with family members who were already part of the church community. Following the loss of a loved one in January 2023, they felt led to begin attending regularly. During a service that same month, a need for guitar players on the worship team was announced, and within a few weeks, Josh stepped in to serve and joined the team.

Josh’s ultimate prayer is to faithfully support the worship team in leading sound, consistent, and Christ-centered worship for the congregation of St. Philip’s. He also hopes to cultivate a worship team culture marked by love, service, and trust. This includes fostering deeper fellowship among team members and creating meaningful opportunities for others in the congregation to use their God-given gifts in service to the church.

Outside of serving on the worship team, Josh enjoys spending time with his wife, Mackenzie, and their two kids, Brooks and Bennet (who can often be found banging on the drums after service). He also enjoys playing golf, working out, and watching Steelers football.

Josh is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Ministry and Theology from Fuller Seminary, with a desire to deepen his understanding of God’s Word and grow in his ability to serve the church faithfully.

Shane Handlovitch

PRODUCTION MANAGER

Meet Shane

Shane is the Production Manager at St. Philip’s. He handles the prerecorded services; sound at our drive-in services, setting up and running the livestream, and upgrading the sound and lights in the sanctuary. Shane has been working in many of these roles for Kidz Kamp, Hangin’ In, and church services for many years.  He has also filled these roles at various student ministry camps like Surf City, Laurelville, and Adventure Weekend. Shane is a Digital Media Production Major and Theatre Sound minor at Kent State. His goal and prayer is that, with the help of everyone within the church, he can bring the best worship experience possible whether it be live or online. His hope is that with his skillset he can bring a better experience and create an enhanced, intentional environment to many of the student ministry programs and Kidz Kamp.

In his spare time Shane continues to play hockey while at college for Kent State’s Division 1 ACHA hockey team.

Abby Jackson

Abby Jackson

Children’s Ministry Director

Meet Abby

Abby has been attending St. Philips Church for over 5 years now. She started off donating her time at Kidz Church and Co-leading the MOPS program which grew into her current position of Children’s Ministry Director since the beginning of 2024. She now has been blessed to be one of the Kidz Kamp Co-Directors. Abby loves helping little minds learn about the love that Christ has for all of us.

In addition to her roles at St. Philips Abby also teaches at her daughter’s school part time, is a PTA mom and has two kids, Harper and Wyatt. Abby loves helping out with anything church related and loves her workout classes, singing in the car and being the best mom she can possibly be. She is so thankful the Lord brought her to St. Philips and cannot wait to see what the futures holds!

Laura Brinkley

Laura Brinkley

Director of Operations

Meet Laura

Laura serves as the church’s Director of Operations. She is the go-to person for all the tasks that make St. Philip’s a functioning congregation. From calendars to event coordination, she is dedicated to making sure that the church operates smoothly. She knows more than a little about almost everything happening at St. Philip’s.

Before joining the staff, she worked in the insurance and financial services industry. Coming to St. Philip’s in 1999, she quickly felt the pull of God toward full-time service in the church. Not too many years later, the opportunity to work in administration opened up, and she has been faithfully serving since.

Laura is passionate about prayer, and her caring spirit is evident in all she does for the people of St. Philip’s. Her position is a true opportunity to serve, and she understands that her work supports the ministry of the church, which she loves. Her hope and prayer is to use this position in a ministry role to further God’s kingdom.

Married to her best friend Stuart, Laura is the proud mother of three children. If you ask, she’ll be quick to mention that her family continues to grow!

Give her a call, and she will diligently approach the Father and pray on your behalf!

Lauren

Lauren Bangor

Director of Events and Communications

Meet Lauren

Lauren graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor of science in Sport Management. She has worked in multiple operations and event roles spending time with the West Virginia University Athletic Department and almost a decade working in gameday operations for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Lauren’s true passion is fitness and empowering movement, independence and confidence in every athlete. Ever since college, Lauren has taught fitness classes and officially made the jump to teaching and personal training full time in 2023. Lauren teaches a variety of classes and programs and trains at two gyms in Sewickley.

She found St. Philip’s as her home church right before the Covid-19 pandemic and felt at home from day one. As she got more involved with the church she found a place to serve in directing the annual Harvest Moon Race to benefit St. Philip’s Student Ministry. After years of race planning and assisting with other events she felt a need to spend more time at the church in a more official role. St. Philip’s has changed her life and when asked to join the staff, it was an immediate yes.

Lauren’s prayer for St. Philip’s is to continue to grow the amazing fellowship and community of the church and to empower a spirit of health and wellness as Director of F3: Faith, Fitness, Fellowship.

When Lauren is not at the gym or the church you can find her reading, cooking, hiking or wrangling her loveable menace, a golden retriever named Archie. Lauren lives with her husband, Ian, in Moon Township.

Amaris Cruz

Ministry Intern

Meet Amaris

What is your role at St. Philip’s?
I am the ministry intern. I get to have my hand in a lot of the ministries, from the youth to worship to administrative work and social media. I get to serve in so many different capacities and ministries.

How did you end up here?
I was in a 3 month discipleship program called Unaltered where I lived in Darlington, PA on a place called Prayer Mountain. Through that program, I was connected with Jade and given a summer internship on the worship team. Through that, I was able to help in numerous other ministries. StP then decided to take me on for a year as their ministry intern.

What is your goal/prayer/hope for the work you do serving St. Philip’s and the community?
Coming to St. Philip’s, one of my goals has been to further find the direction the Lord wants me to go in ministry. The Lord has already grown me as a worship leader and is consistently changing my heart towards serving others. I hope to love this community well and serve wherever there is a need. My prayer is that I’m continually given opportunities to say yes and honor the Lord and the church through serving and loving those around me.

What personal items (families, hobbies, quirks) would you like to share with the world, if any?
One of my goals in life is to own a thrift store. Thrifting, fashion and clothing have always been things that I loved and am passionate about. I believe it would be a great opportunity to minister to others and love on whatever community I land in well. It’s something I could talk about for ages. Next time you see me, ask me about it!

Megan Hatton

Megan Hatton

Preschool Director

Meet Megan

Megan is the Preschool Director and a teacher for St Philip’s Preschool.

She graduated from University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor of science in Child Development. For 5 years she worked as a behavioral therapist/TSS for young children with autism all over the Pittsburgh area. Once her 2nd child was born she left her job to be a stay at home mom for the next 8 years. Before working at St Philips Preschool she was a preschool parent. Megan joined the St Philips MOPS group when she moved to Moon in 2011. From many recommendations, she and her husband knew they wanted their youngest daughter to attend the preschool. Their daughter went through the 3’s and 4’s class, and they loved everything about the school! Once all of her children were off to school all day, she decided to get back into the early childhood education field. She inquired about a job with St Philip’s Preschool and has enjoyed working as a preschool teacher since. 2021 is her 8th year at the preschool and her 4th year as Preschool Director, while still teaching the 3’s. She truly loves her job and loves to see how God moves daily in the lives of preschoolers and their families.

Her prayer for the preschool is that she and her staff can show Jesus’s love to every child and their family by simply loving them, serving them, and planting the seed of faith in their little ones that will stay with them well beyond the preschool years.

Megan was born and raised in Pittsburgh and has lived in Moon Township with her husband, Geoff, 3 children and dog. She is a “hockey, soccer and cross country” mom, as she spends a lot of time driving to and watching all sports that her children participate in. Megan says, “I’m not very athletic at all, but I enjoy watching my kids do what they love most. Besides sports, I love spending time with family, gardening and traveling to different places!”

Bruce Downing

Vestry, Senior Warden

Meet Bruce

Serving as Jade & Dane’s first Senior Warden, Bruce Downing was originally asked to return to Vestry to complete the remaining term of the wonderful but retiring Doc Bell. Bruce and Kathy have been part of St. Philip’s since services were held in what is now Huntsman Funeral Home circa 1999—almost 30 years. They are especially thankful for the faith of their adult children, Brock and Brenna, shaped in large part through their family’s involvement at StP.

In the recent past Bruce and Kathy have both served separate but full six-year terms on Vestry, and for many of those years Bruce served as Senior Warden to Eric Taylor.

As part of an ongoing career in advertising and marketing, Bruce led the development of StP’s first website and continues to work with staff to keep the website and other marketing efforts fresh. He considers his greatest accomplishment to be leading (for 7+ years) and then handing-off the Kidz Kamp mud slide to the very capable Anthony Mott. Bruce currently runs the 32-man StP golf league. He and Kathy also lead a small group and participate in ALPHA, the coffee bar, Bible studies, and much more at StP. Bruce enjoys playing pretty bad golf, being a longtime Steelers season ticket holder and fan, but most of all, he enjoys building and enjoying many friendships.

Molly Flick

Vestry, Junior Warden

Meet Molly

Molly has called St. Philip’s home for the past six years. She first came to STP as a struggling Catholic searching for a church family and a place where she could grow in her faith. At St. Philip’s, she found both, along with a community that quickly became an important part of her life.

Recently retired from Thermo Fisher Scientific, Molly brings many years of leadership and General Manager experience to her service at St. Philip’s. She has enjoyed putting that experience to work alongside Co-Senior Pastors Jade and Dane, particularly through her involvement with the Personnel Committee and initiatives focused on strengthening our staff, roles, and organizational practices to support St. Philip’s continued growth.

Molly is honored to serve as Junior Warden and looks forward to partnering with our clergy, Vestry, staff, and congregation as St. Philip’s continues to grow and help people find the same sense of faith, belonging, and community that first drew her here.

Outside of church, Molly enjoys running three miles a few days a week, reading a really good book, and working toward her very ambitious goal of consistently breaking 120 on the golf course this year! She loves entertaining at her home in the country, especially hosting open-house gatherings filled with family and friends. Her 5½ acres also provide plenty of room for Parker, her Chiweenie and, in Molly’s completely unbiased opinion, the best dog ever!

Charley Kennedy

TREASURER & VESTRY MEMBER

Meet Charley

Charley is the Treasurer of St. Philip’s, a role he has held for over a decade. In addition, he is a member of the Vestry and chairs our Finance Committee. Charley also provides leadership for our Men’s Ministry at St. Philip’s.

Charley and his wife Nancy settled in Moon Township over thirty years ago. Shortly thereafter they found a comfortable home in St. Philip’s whose worship style was an ideal fit for their ecumenical (Methodist & Catholic) marriage. Their four children grew up at St. Philip’s enjoying Kidz Kamp and Student Ministry which created a foundation of friendships and many memories for them.

Charley’s prayer is for St. Philip’s to be a vessel of approachable love where we’re not just a physical presence in Moon, but an authentic inclusive group of believers that make families feel immediately at home. A true example of Jesus’ humility and servant leadership.

When not avidly following Pittsburgh’s sports teams, Charley is enjoying the outdoors. He really enjoys whipping around the church property on a zero-turn mower along with the rest of the awesome St. Philip’s Grounds Crew. When not in Moon, Charley and his family can usually be found boating or putzing around Chautauqua Lake. Give him a call if you’re heading up!

Ted Frick

VESTRY SECRETARY

Meet Ted

Ted serves St. Philip’s in several areas of church life, including volunteering in the Nursery during Sunday services and helping with the Monday evening mowing crew. He also participates in the Tuesday morning Men’s small group. In addition, he serves on the Vestry as secretary, chairs the Buildings and Grounds Committee, and contributes as a member of the Finance Committee.

He and his family were first drawn to St. Philip’s through friendships with other church families—especially the Storms—and through their children’s involvement in Kidz Kamp.

Ted’s prayer for St. Philip’s is that it would continue to be a welcoming place where people can encounter Christ and grow in a personal relationship with Him.

Ted and Lisa Frick especially enjoy their role as grandparents to six (soon to be seven) grandchildren and consider that one of life’s greatest blessings!

Roger Foley

SMALL GROUP LEADER

Meet Roger

Roger is the Small Group Coordinator at St. Philips.
Following moving to Moon Township, Roger has been a parishioner at St. Philips for over 20 years with a small break during which he assisted with a local church plant. Roger and his wife, Sara, currently lead a small group (T.G.I.F. – “To grow in Faith”) with a central focus on an “up, in and out” framework to strengthen his and others’ relationships with God, the Christian/Church community, and others outside the church via missions and other outreach.

Roger’s goal, through God’s guidance and prayer, is to coordinate efforts at St. Philips to focus on the value of small group communities (both individually and corporately), invest time in assisting current small group leaders to continue to serve their small groups effectively, and help others to begin to launch and lead new small groups successfully going forward.

Roger is an avid skier which he often describes as his “life passion” (other than serving the Lord – 🙂).  Roger is also a passionate and avid golfer but has quickly discovered that it IS actually possible to have a “bad golf day” whereas he has never, to this day, had a “bad ski day” on the slopes.

Rector’s Announcement

Dear STP Family,

I tried to get through this at 7:30, but couldn’t…so I’m having someone read this in my place.

I understand John Guest announced my retirement a few weeks ago. He was not all wrong. So, I wrote this given the wisdom of speak no careless words. Vestry members have been giving updates on staffing issues for the past six months now. And, it made sense for me to chime in because clarity produces confidence. So, let’s be as clear as possible.

I spent the past 2 years doing the John the Baptist thing with Steve Palmer, he must increase, I must decrease. We shared the pulpit and were a good team. And you loved Steve, didn’t you? Yeah, the Palmers were easy to love. I loved him and enjoyed his preaching.

Well, when Steve left, that wasn’t fun; was it? I know it wasn’t fun for me! Soon after, members of our vestry came to me and asked me what kind of runway I had left. So, for a whole confluence of reasons, I told them. You are looking for my successor. They are not looking for our next Associate Pastor…they are looking for your next Rector. And when I set this process in motion, I knew what I was doing.

What will happen? This process will swing into high gear as they hire a consultant to help them. And, I’ll help them, advise them and be available to them. Yet the keys and strategy regarding the future of St. Philip’s Church have been effectually handed over to our board and I am now functioning as the COO with responsibility for the day-to-day operations…which has its own challenges and which we can talk about another time. Please pray for our Vestry…they are invested with huge responsibility and have a lot of work ahead. Probably more than they know.

When a new leader is brought on board…there will be a transition period. What that looks like and how long that lasts is anyone’s guess…but at some point: with the advice of our board…I will step aside.

There is a lot of uncertainty in all of this: for them, for you and for me. I have to start praying and thinking about what’s next for Cyndi and I. I know God has more for me to do…but I am not striving to try and find that right now. Yet God works in uncertainty and the time to pay attention is the time between dreams.

I want to say that some of my closest long-time friends here are currently, or will be, having a hard time with this…I get it. It’s not logical…its emotional: for them and for me. I am immensely grateful for their love, loyalty and care…they’ve held my arms up.

A lot of these old lions and lionesses are warriors who walked through all the battles and wars we fought here together. And while they cannot say with Paul: I bear on my body the marks of Christ…trust me, if you could open them up you will find scars present on their hearts, souls and in their checkbooks.

These are the old lions and lionesses, who deserve to be honored. Just please give them grace in the days ahead when you might find them more surly than usual.

So, pray for me. Pray for STP. Pray for our board. Exciting and hard days ahead. But know, even if sometimes this thing looks frayed at the edges, God’s in this. I know this and so should you.

Thank You for Your Years of Care and Trust,
ET

Samantha Veness

Samantha Veness

Children’s Ministry Co-Director

Meet Samantha

Hi! I am blessed to be a Co-Director of Children’s Ministry. As a child, I always saw my mother lead our church’s children’s ministry and knew if I had a chance, I too, would like to be that role model for my children. My husband, Zack, and I were led to search for a new church family during the pandemic while everything was still shut down and large gatherings were still frowned upon. We were invited by family to attend St. Philip’s outdoor services and the rest was history!  We have two daughters, Raegan, 4, and Shelby, 2. We enjoy all things outdoors: hiking/walking, biking, boating, swimming, and Zoo trips. My hope is for the children who attend our Children’s Ministry Program is for them to learn and grow in their faith and for them to have the confidence to always know God’s love for them. I had a crisis of faith when we were told we would not be able to have children, but with the background of growing up in a loving church, I knew I could turn to God.

Clair Martin

Children’s Ministry Co-Director

Meet Clair

I serve as a Co-Director of Children’s Ministry here at St. Philip’s. My family and I have been attending since August of 2022; my husband, Philip, and I found St. Philip’s after moving from the Philadelphia area where I taught second grade at a small Christian school. We have two children–Noelle and Philip Jr.–and a mini goldendoodle named Ginger. You might find us strolling around the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden or searching for a Korean restaurant to call our favorite. I pray that God will work in and through our Children’s Ministry to show young ones and their families the wonders of His marvelous love, both within our church and throughout the community.
